challenge

Challenge

Helix Dynamics builds autonomous assembly lines with controllers on factory floors, simulation clusters in a private data center, and orchestration services in AWS. Traditional VPNs required opening inbound ports on industrial networks — a non-starter for their OT security team. Engineers used three different access tools to reach robots, databases, and dashboards, and none of them supported device posture checks.

solution

Solution

Kimox edge agents on factory controllers connect outbound through NAT traversal, eliminating the need for inbound firewall rules. The same mesh links OT devices to cloud-based fleet management with tag-based ACLs that isolate each production line. Device posture checks verify firmware versions and disk encryption before granting access to control systems.

results

Results

Helix Dynamics unified 120 edge devices and 14 cloud services on one mesh in under two weeks. OT security approved the deployment because no inbound ports were opened on the factory network. Unplanned downtime from misconfigured firewall rules dropped to zero in the first quarter after rollout.

Kimox is the first networking tool our OT and cloud teams both signed off on. That never happened before.
